  Counting down to the holidays

Went to the annual Christmas party at Tanja and Dave's yesterday - the first one held in their new home at Kallista in the Dandenongs, it was lovely and fun to catch up with everyone too. I have a campus-based one tomorrow morning and then the Uni closes until the New Year. I've finished my Christmas shopping and am trying to put together a candle-lit pizaa dinner for Nina on Cristmas Eve... it's proving to be heaps of fun.

I've finished all my reviews and articles and now I am starting work on the first three chapters of my thesis. It all feels pretty huge, but I think it will be good to get started. I'm reading an excellent book on medical technology methodologies for my research at the moment, which should inspire me. Early on in the New Year I need to write a presentation for a couple of informatics seminars, but the work I am doing now should provide a decent basis for this.

I went and saw my new office last week- it's lovely. I am outside Mick's office, next to a window. All I am waiting for is a furniture delivery and then I can start moving- it's all pretty exciting. I started packing up this office today, and I think I have it sorted into a single car load.

Oh well, its time to get back to work I guess... gym this arvo.

  I love Christmas

I've always loved Christmas, for all it's flaws there is still something magical about it for the child in me.

I am frantically busy reviewing an article, editing 2 of my own and revising my research proposal. My supervisor just brought me over the most useful resource based on a presentation he went to last week. I told him it was the best Christmas present he could have given me, which is true, because it blew a little lump of tension in my stomache completely away. I am so pleased.

Moving offices to Clayton next year - that will be exciting :P

I've had to miss 2 Christmas parties this year :(

I missed one last week because I wasn't well, and I will miss one on Friday because I'm going to an Informatics seminar at the Austin hospital. The seminar will be fabulous, but I wish I didnt need to miss out on the Christmas celebrations for my Centre. Oh well it has to be done...

I'm working from home today and so went to gym this morning. It interests me how much sharper I am after gym- makes a difference to the clarity of my thinking. At the same time it delays the start of work a fair a bit and I'm wondering whether it might be better to wake up earlier and get it out of the way before 8.30 am. I am so NOT a morning person, I'd probably stop going all together if I had to get out of bed so early.

We went to a Christmas picnic at Jells Park yesterday with my IT crew. I ate so much I could hardly walk, the food was delicious and the company was great- I like being an honorary with them. They think the new office space will be finished this week and so they'll move before the end of year shut down, which means I may move this year or it could be early next year. It will be fabulous to be based at Clayton again, I didnt realise how much I'd miss it when I moved to Peninsula. Well, I guess it's not the location, it's more the people really... I know everyone there and there's always so much happening.

I have given my supervisors 3 pieces of work to review, 2 of them for publication purposes and the other is an amendment to my research proposal. It's going to be a busy January I think. I've also agreed to review another journal article for theJEPC, which should be interesting.

I'm about to launch myself into updating everthing I know about the HL7 RIM - should be interesting if a bit full on I think.

SCERH meeting tomorrow too - it will go all day, but I have to manage to find the time for some Christmas shopping too...

Lunch with the girls at Southbanklast week was delicious. We met at 12.30 and the afternoon just flew by, I was shocked when I checkedmy watch to see it was after 7 pm when we finished up, but we'd heaps to talk about since we haven't seen each other since August. We also needed to celebrate Johann's new job. Afterwards, Sandy and Nina joined me for dinner at the River, Nina's favourite restaurant at the moment. It was a lovely, if tiring day.

  Nina's birthday

Nina is 11 years old today :) We had her birthday party at Mum's yesterday; she had about 15 11 and 12 year old's over for a BBQ and we hired a jumping castle. It was a great day but by the time I got home I was so tired, I just collapsed into bed without even looking at the photographs we took.

I ended up having a quiet week, got some virus which sent me to bed on Thursday and Friday, so I cancelled the stuff I had on both those nights. I really knew I had to give in and admit I was sick when on Wenesday night, I couldn't sleep I was so cold, yet the temperature was really hot by any indpendent measure- about 33 degrees during the daytime.

Nonetheless I managed to get through 7 research proposals for the next SCERCH meeting and got through some other bits and pieces on my 3 papers. This morning I have incorporated all of the critcisms I got into my research proposal and so hopefully will have a better draft of it complete by this afternoon- then it's back to my Supervisors for more feedback.
